Illicit Trade

Have heard from at least two residents recently who are concerned and intimidated by alleged drug dealing and  associated disturbing incidents occurring in their neighbourhood.

This is puzzling to me, not the concern but the alleged increase in drug trade. It seems that in a place like PEI where everyone seems to know everyone’s business that it would be impossible to conduct any large scale drug operations without someone finding out.

Having been here only 18 months I have already heard (ahh, the rumour mill) who and where illicit activity is suspected of going on. Either the rumours are far from true (hence drug activity is not as prolific as suspected) or PEI criminal types are smarter than your average bear when it comes to avoiding the law.

Either way, let’s hope this is not indicative of an actual increase in drug crime and only an increase in perception and reduction in tolerance for drug-related offences.

I’m not sure if it’s greater perception or less tolerance, honestly. This appeared in the paper recently: Police say community outreach key to solving Island drug problem
