I recently received a package in my mailbox at City Hall from the Church of Scientology International. It was addressed specifically to me. I’m not aware of any other councillors receiving the same package which makes me wonder, “why me?”. There’s a short note from President Heber Jentzsch outlining the virtues of Scientology and a DVD “with 80 broadcast-quality videos”.

I haven’t taken the wrapper off the DVD yet, but if Tom Cruise himself agrees to come to Charlottetown and make a movie I’ll… um, take the wrapper off. Actually, I plan to watch it out of shear sheer curiosity, but I’m not quite ready to sell my Thetan to Xenu just yet.
Why make fun of a religious group just for sending you a free DVD explaining their faith?

There’s nothing in that post that makes fun of anything that I can see. Unless you think the mere mention of words like Thetan and Xenu are funny?
Sophie… I wasn’t trying to make fun but I confess my almost total ignorance of Scientology (I just learned about thetan and xenu from Wikipedia!). I always thought Scientology was something closely associated with Hollywood for the most part, and found it strange that I would receive this package.
Whether your intention was to make fun or not, you would be well advised not to take Scientology lightly.

Unlike other religions, Scientology requires you to pay large sums of money while they dole out bite-sized chunks of their “belief system”. It is not until you have paid several hundred thousands of dollars that you even learn the official story of Xenu (although the Xenu story is has been leaked on the internet, with LRH in an audio recording telling the whole thing…. which they still deny to this day).
When Scientology comes calling… hang up! It’s not just a goofy Hollywood religion.

Sophie all you have to do is go as far as youtube and you will see some very disturbed people getting verbally and physically violent as reporters try to ask them simple questions. Religions like this prey on the weak-minded.

religions like that pray on the week minded? The only difference from Scientology and Christianity, Muslim, Buddhist…etc is a time-line. It is all irrational, all believers are equally brain-washed. “LORD HAVE MERCY”.
Paying large sums of money tot he religion where have I heard that before- Catholicism ( in the past for entry into heaven, and now for buggering boys).
