Some of the recent complaints concerning parking (refereing to the compass story on the used book story) are more concerned with price parity. A employee can park on the main sections and not face a sagnificant enought fine ( to the Ch’town Police) to deter such acts as oppossed to the alternative acommidations(i.e parkades,paid lots)and if the subject of parking is over exaggerated- which is likely the case, and violaters are the offenders. There can only be one rational an increase in fineage and supervision. The problem could be solved with using modern technology and increased fines.

Increase fines to a rate that exceeds the daily fee of parkades and increase the monotering not by more “meter maids” but more efficient means, such as segways. Segways would quadruple the coverage of the current employees and minimize the cost

Rob, this a great idea. A thought to bring before council. What about offering an incentive to employers in the core to follow suit? This may be a provincial or federal question, but are there tax incentives for businesses who subsidize (preferrably provide) bus passes to employees?

On another note, I am going to ask my employer to cover a bus pass in lieu of a parking space in a city parkade. I ride my bike as often as the weather (and my schedule) permits, but it would be nice to take the bus during the really cold months instead of having to commute by car.

Again, way to go council! This is a great idea, which I hope continues past the initial pilot project.
