I would count myself in the former camp and or the very reason one presenter outlined: where does it stop? What if someone wants to have another kind of sporting event which we can only have if we add some other kind of facility to the park? And another...and another... The very excellent report on Charlottetown's parks recognized that the park had to be a balance between a natural refuge and a place for sporting events. And it very sensibly suggested moving a few things out of the park to re=establish that balance. The Parks and Rec department has done some excellent work to restore some of the natural wild plants and trees. But that hasn't tipped the balance so far that there is now room to start building recreational facilities again. People don't need recreational facilities to attract them to Victoria Park. They go for the reasons Victoria Park was originally byuild - to experience nature and for some peace and quiet. I don't believe that "facilities that will allow us to hold national championships" is a part of the park's mandate. And I think, with the Canada Games looming, that council is being held to the wall. Here's my question: if you okay this, what's next?
